It’s my favorite day of the year. The year I decided to commit myself to a sober journey that has given me back more than I could ever even imagine. It’s the thing I am most proud of myself for because it’s the reason I have everything else in my life that is good. This year has been the hardest year of my sobriety. I lost a grandparent who I used to talk to all the time, I lost a job out of nowhere, and lastly, and probably the biggest one, I lost my father, the only one on the earth who might have been a little more proud of me for this, than I was myself. I won’t lie to you, losing my father is the WORST pain I have experienced in sobriety, but even that isn’t worth throwing away what I’ve built over the last twelve years. There is always that loving hand of God guiding me, and now I have my daddy looking over me as well, so I’m expecting things to be on the up and up from here on out. So here are 12 things I’ve learned this year that I hope to always carry with me for the rest of my life. I have so many people to thank for helping me get to where I am. I love you 💕

1. Dance like nobody is watching. Do it, who cares what they think? Who are they to you anyway?

2. It’s okay to take a break when your body needs rest. Do not be hard on yourself.

3. Try to see the difference between who’s REALLY there and who’s just a fair weather friend, and let go of the extra baggage. It’s weighing you down.

4. DO WHAT YOU LOVE, stop letting fear hold you back, LIFE IS TRULY TOO SHORT.

5. Do whatever you do with a smile. Don’t kiss ass, but don’t be ugly, ya follow ?

6. Respect yourself. Don’t let people take advantage of your heart.

7. Hug the ones you love really tight. Tell them you love them. Do it twice.

8. Stay in the moment. Get out of your phone. Look at the beauty around you.

9. It’s okay to be proud of yourself.

10. You may be sad now, but you will laugh again. Feel whatever you need to feel.

11. Death helps you to realize how important life is.

12. If you can get through the death of your daddy and not drink, then you can get through anything. Make him proud.

Here’s to another sobriety around the sun.
